Easy Hummus Recipe

Being a great cook doesn’t mean starting from scratch every time. Sometimes, you just need that inexplicable je ne sais quoi to transform TJ’s hummus into, “Omg! Did you make this?!”.

So—let’s make this one easy, shall we? All store-bought hummus really needs is (well, first—to be removed from its plastic tub. Please, please, please. A five-second step that will make a huge difference ??) an artful swirl, a fun festive topping, and drizzle of olive oil.

An easy hummus recipe that is delicious, simple, and jazzed up ever so slightly. Bring these out this summer to impress your guests—they will never know you used store-bought hummus! Especially if you serve it with this chicken souvlaki or these homemade sourdough pretzels! If you want to make your own, you could try making beetroot hummus if you’re feeling adventurous!

BROWNED BUTTER HUMMUS

Ingredients:

  • Store-bought hummus: 1 Container

  • Butter: 1 Tablespoon

  • Pink peppercorn: 1 Tablespoon

  • Black sesame seeds (or I love TJ’s Everything Bagel Seasoning): 1 Tablespoon

Steps:

  1. Transfer hummus to a favorite bowl, and using the back of the spoon, make a moat around the perimeter

  2. Warm butter over medium high heat, just until it browns—this happens quickly so don’t walk away!  Let it cool (if it’s hot it will melt the hummus.)

  3. Pour butter into the moat, then top with black sesame seeds and pink peppercorn

HERBY OLIVE OIL HUMMUS

Ingredients:

  • Store-bought hummus: 1 Container

  • High quality olive oil: 2 Tablespoon

  • Pine nuts, toasted: 3 Tablespoon

  • Fresh dill

  • Cracked pepper

Steps:

  1.  Transfer hummus to a favorite bowl, and using the back of the spoon, make a moat around the perimeter.

  2. Pour olive oil in the moat, then sprinkle with toasted pine nuts, a few sprigs of dill, and a crank of black pepper.

I also think adding this adobo sauce to store-bought hummus would be a delicious way to spice it up! If you’re looking for another delicious appetizer, try this tomato relish which you can spread on crostini or these delicious Peruvian sandwiches!

Have leftover hummus? Cover it with plastic wrap or beeswax wrap and save it for later!
